EDI Release 3 is coming to Florida

Just when you learned how to submit an Original First Report of Injury (00) followed up by an Initial Payment of Indemnity (IP) report, now you’ll have to learn how to submit a 00/IP together.

Or do you submit a 00/EP (Employer Paid), 00/CD (Compensable Death), 00/PD (Partial Denial), 00/PY (Payment Report) or 00/VE (Volunteer)? It’s confusing — but if you write workers compensation business in Florida, you’ll need to figure it out sooner than later.

Effective January 7, 2007, Florida has adopted Rule 69L-56 that will require insurers to electronically report certain claims information to the Division of Workers’ Compensation using the IAIABC Claims EDI Release 3 national standard. The rule requires that carriers will need to implement Release 3 in one of three test phases beginning November 1, 2007. All companies submitting transactions in the Release 1 format are required to convert to the new standard in the first quarter of 2007.

That means you’ll need to learn the ins and outs of Release 3 as soon as possible.  Are you prepared for Release 3?
