The life cycle of a claim report in the ISO ClaimSearch® database

When you submit a claim report to the ISO ClaimSearch® database, it remains there indefinitely. However, when you submit a claim report to the system, ISO ClaimSearch returns matches on only those claims filed during the past five years based on the date ISO received the claim.

We don’t purge the data, because longer claims histories may be valuable for special investigations.

There are two exceptions to the five-year search rule:

  • Workers compensation claims reported through Universal Format search the entire database for related casualty claims.
  • Vehicle identification numbers (VINs) reported as auto physical damage or theft claims search the entire database for other claims with matching VINs.

ISO extended the searches for those claim types to capture important lifetime workers compensation claims and potentially questionable vehicle claims.
