IFM Review

March 9 to 12, 2008
Loews Coronado Bay Resort, Coronado, California

Hundreds of insurance professionals gathered at the Insurance Fraud Management (IFM) Conference — our annual industry insurance fraud conference — in beautiful Coronado, California.

Vincent Cialdella, senior vice president, ISO, opened the conference. His welcoming remarks touched on the new chapters being written in the industry’s effort to fight insurance fraud, and he described the new data enhancements that will drive that effort to greater success.

Robert “Bear” Bryant, president and CEO of NICB, gave the keynote address. Candysse Miller, executive director of the Insurance Information Network of California, also presented a session on the state of the property/casualty industry in California. She discussed statewide issues, including wildfires, fraud, and the state of the market.

The sessions focused on the latest insurance fraud issues, such as:

  • formulating and initiating litigation
  • packaging for criminal prosecution
  • insurance fraud and money laundering
  • RICO prosecution
  • using predictive models to better identify fraud
  • management of major cases and SIU special projects
  • process planning in SIU management
  • the role of human resources departments in planning for SIU success

Attendees had the chance to network with their peers and learn how to embrace and integrate new technologies into their operations. They discovered how to stay a step ahead of insurance fraud schemes and how to investigate perpetrators effectively yet cost-efficiently. In the IFM Exhibit Hall, vendors showcased the latest products and services for fighting insurance fraud — including investigative services, fraud-detection technology, data-mining software, and educational materials.

IFM was presented by the Insurance Fraud Management Advisory Panel and is sponsored by ISO and the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
