A multi-dimensional, web-based approach to analyzing
catastrophe-history data from Property Claim Services
With ISO's CatCube®, you can now get Internet access to essential information from Property Claim Services® (PCS®).
All you need is a web browser and an ISOnetSM password.
ISO's CatCube catastrophe-history database combines a wealth of information about catastrophes with the flexibility, speed, and ease of a web-based application. You get a multidimensional approach to analyzing critical data on catastrophes in the United States since 1950. The database continues to be the only source of U.S. insured-loss evaluations for catastrophic events.
ISO's CatCube catastrophe-history database is a valuable resource for catastrophe planning, reinsurance purchase, resource allocation, and underwriting and marketing programs. For example, insurers and reinsurers can use the industry's loss data to help anticipate their specific catastrophic experience. Entities involved in securitizing risk can use the information to measure the effect of catastrophes by state or region and by peril or time period.
Explore any combination of information
Using Cognos® PowerPlay® business-intelligence database technology, ISO's CatCube lets you explore any combination of the elements in the database, so you can examine the interactions between different types of information. You can look at catastrophe information by:
- catastrophe serial number
- year of occurrence
- state(s) affected
- type of catastrophe (includes 11 categories)
- amount of loss (estimated payment, average payment, number of claims, and total dollars)
- type of estimate (preliminary, resurvey, or final)
Benefit from new enhancements
ISO has recently added a number of features that will make it easier for you to find information in the database. You'll get:
- improved drill-down capability that provides more information on the claims and payments associated with a catastrophic event
- enhanced search abilities that allow you to conduct multiple-year analyses to compare losses across several years
- catastrophe-event totals that reflect the final survey estimate prepared by PCS
- drag-and-drop functionality that makes it easier for you to prepare reports
The enhancements give you more flexibility in your searches and save you valuable time and effort. And because we update the database every week, you'll always have access to the most up-to-date information.
With the advanced analytical functionality of ISO's CatCube catastrophe-history database:
- insurers can evaluate their portfolios and monitor large industry losses
- reinsurers can properly analyze their spread of risk
- financial customers can analyze the risk associated with a particular securitization or peril

Add depth to your analysis
To add greater depth to your analysis, you can drill down to additional levels for detailed loss and claim information for all catastrophes since January 1998.
And to help you get the most out of ISO's CatCube catastrophe-history database, PCS will work with you to develop customized report formats that meet your special needs. After we've created a permanent format for you, you'll find the report ready every time you use ISO's CatCube. You can modify your reports to look at different data in the same format. You can print your reports or save them as PDF or CSV (comma-separated values) files.

Link to other PCS services easily
Because you access ISO's CatCube catastrophe-history database through ISOnet, it's easy to link to other PCS products, such as the catastrophe bulletins and daily event reports. You'll find that helpful when researching the history of similar events. For example, if you're tracking the losses from a fire catastrophe in Los Alamos, New Mexico, you could easily link to the database and research other wildland fire losses.
