Technical Achievement Program (TAP)

Overview  |  »About the Program  |  Registration Form

About the program
The PAAS® Technical Achievement Program (TAP) is a convenient, cost-effective way to train and certify employees who perform physical or telephone audits or who review audit results. Most training programs require employers to cover hotel, travel, and meal expenses. But TAP is an online self-study course. You pay only for course registration and the exam.

Course descriptions

TAP offers three comprehensive courses — Workers Compensation, General Liability, and Commercial Automobile — as well as three new "modular" courses on single subjects. Here's a brief description of each course.

Workers Compensation

This course consists of six chapters covering:

  • overview of the workers compensation system
  • classification terminology and procedures
  • basis of premium
  • executive officers
  • subcontractors
  • additional factors affecting coverage and classifications

General Liability

This course consists of eight chapters covering:

  • legal liability and liability insurance
  • basis of premium
  • classification procedures for general liability
  • manufacturing and processing risks
  • mercantile risks
  • contracting or servicing risks
  • building and premises risks
  • miscellaneous risks

Commercial Automobile

This course consists of six chapters covering:

  • introduction to commercial automobile
  • business auto coverage form
  • business auto coverage form — public autos
  • how to classify nonowned and hired autos
  • truckers and motor carriers coverage forms
  • garage coverage form

Basis of Premium

This modular course analyzes the components that make up the bases of premium used for workers compensation and general liability. The workers compensation section covers:

  • payroll inclusions/exclusions
  • overtime
  • payroll limitation
  • miscellaneous premium bases
  • payroll interpretations

The general liability section covers:

  • overview of the classification structure
  • bases of premium for admissions, area, each, gross sales, payroll, total cost, and units

Standard Exceptions/Business Owners

This modular course analyzes the workers compensation and general liability manual rules that apply to employees engaged in clerical, drafting, outside sales, and driving duties. The course includes state exceptions and miscellaneous interpretations relevant to those operations. And the course reviews the manual rules and state exceptions for determining premium and classification assignment for:

  • executive officers
  • partners
  • sole proprietors
  • members of limited liability companies

Executive Supervisor

This modular course analyzes the qualifications required for the assignment of employees to code 5606 for workers compensation and 91580 for general liability. The course also includes state exceptions and various independent rating bureau interpretations.

The TAP exam
TAP offers practice exams for the standard courses (Workers Compensation, General Liability and Commercial Automobile) only. You have three chances to take each practice exam. Once you've successfully taken the practice exams and feel you've mastered the material, you're ready to take the official online exam. You’ll have one hour to answer 30 questions for the standard courses or 25 questions for the modular courses. Upon completing the exam, you'll immediately receive your results, along with constructive feedback. You get one chance to take the final exam, and if you don’t pass, you’ll need to purchase another access code. You must complete the course within 60 days from the date of registration, or your access code will expire.

Certification
Complete all three courses — Workers Compensation, General Liability, and Commercial Automobile — within 12 months of your first registration, and receive a Comprehensive Certificate of Achievement.
