Tackle cargo theft with CargoNetTM

In 2009, ISO and the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) collaborated to create CargoNetTM— a national information-sharing system to combat cargo crime. By networking existing databases and adding secure reporting and analytic functions, the system enables more efficient, accurate, and timely sharing of cargo theft information between theft victims, their insurers, and law enforcement.

Why target cargo theft?

Cargo theft drains billions of dollars from the United States economy each year. The problem has proven exceptionally difficult to curtail.

Cargo theft interrupts the supply chain, disrupts manufacturing, and can jeopardize product safety.
A high percentage of thieves target tractor trailers at truck stops because of the target-rich environment, limited physical security, and the low level of awareness of truck stop employees and other drivers.
Gangs and other coordinated groups carry out most cargo thefts, frequently working across state lines.
The chances for recovery drop sharply once thieves remove stolen cargo from a conveyance.
